Lothar Matthäus: Manuel Neuer should lower 'rude' contract demands

Lothar Matthäus believes Manuel Neuer should lower his demands amid reports that the 34-year-old is insisting on a contract extension until 2025 with Bayern München.
Bayern München have offered Manuel Neuer a contract extension until 2023, but the German international is reportedly holding out for a deal until 2025, at which point he would be 39 years old.

Neuer's demands have sparked criticism from Lothar Matthäus, who believes the 34-year-old should be willing to accept a shorter deal.

"Especially in these times, he should remember that gratitude and appreciation go both ways," Matthäus wrote in a column for Sky and continued:

"To stubbornly insist on such a long contract, which he would hardly be offered anywhere else at his age, would be rude. If Bayern offer him a contract until 2023, and the player wants one until 2025, they should meet in the middle, at 2024."

Neuer joined Bayern from Schalke 04 in 2011.
