Alexander Nübel has been criticized for his decision to join Bayern München from Schalke 04 in the summer, with many believing that the 23-year-old will struggle to displace Manuel Neuer at Allianz Arena.
But while Nübel's agent, Stefan Backs, admits that the 23-year-old sees Neuer as a 'role model', he underlines that his client shouldn't be written off as a future first-choice goalkeeper in Munich.
"If Alex didn't think he could make it at Bayern, he wouldn't have taken this step," Backs told Fussball.news.
"Alex came to Schalke 04 from Paderborn as a third-choice goalkeeper when Ralf Fährmann was the undisputed number one. Although he had no Bundesliga experience, he still made his way to the top at Schalke," the agent said and added:
"Nobody can seriously predict the future of Alexander Nübel at Bayern München right now. Who says Alex Nübel can't reach Manuel Neuer's level in two years?"
Nübel has made 47 appearances for Schalke.
