Kevin Kampl hints at desire to sign a new deal with RB Leipzig

Kevin Kampl, who is under contract with RB Leipzig until 2021, has opened up on his future plans amid the coronavirus pandemic.
Kevin Kampl has hinted that he would like to extend his contract with RB Leipzig beyond 2021.

The 29-year-old has previously revealed that he is attracted to playing in another league, but it seems he is leaning towards a stay amid the corona crisis.

At the moment, however, his talks with the club over a potential contract extension have been put on ice.

"We are generally in good talks. Of course, as a family man, I would like to have clarity about the future. But at the moment, there are more important things than talking about a new contract. It's completely understandable that this has been suspended for the time being," Kampl said in an interview with Sport Bild and added:

"It won't be possible to see the full extent of the crisis until it's over. I don't think the same kind of figures will be thrown about in football. You have to see what is possible and realistic and accept it to a certain extent. The day will come when we will talk more concretely. Now is not the right time for that.

"I have been thinking about whether I wanted to play in a different country. But my wife and children feel very much at home in Germany. Especially in these special times, you can see how well Germany is positioned. I can't imagine a better place to live. So it's also a question of whether I want to give that up and if it's realistic and advisable to go to certain countries in the medium term. You can't say that yet," the midfielder said.

Kampl joined RB Leipzig from Bayer Leverkusen in 2017.
