Arne Maier to play 'a good role' under new Hertha coach Bruno Labbadia

Hertha BSC coach Bruno Labbadia wants to get the most out of Arne Maier.
New Hertha BSC coach Bruno Labbadia says Arne Maier could play an important role in his team.

"He definitely plays a role in our plans, a good role," Labbadia told Kicker.

Labbadia, who was appointed Hertha coach this month, is hoping to be able to get the most out of the 21-year-old, who has struggled to get regular playing time after he returned from a long-term injury in November.

Maier openly said he wanted to leave the club in January, but he ultimately ended up staying.

"Of course, I'm aware of the difficulties he has had, but I can see now that he's totally motivated. The way we want to play will make it possible for him to bring out his strengths," Labbadia said.

The central midfielder is under contract with Hertha until 2022.
