Dayot Upamecano will either sign a new deal or be sold

Dayot Upamecano will either sign a new deal beyond 2021 or be sold this summer, says RB Leipzig chief Oliver Mintzlaff.
There are 'only two options' when it comes to the much-discussed future of Dayot Upamecano, RB Leipzig CEO Oliver Mintzlaff told German media on Friday.

The RB Leipzig chief emphasized that the club will not let their key players leave for free under any circumstances.

This means that Upamecano will either extend his contract beyond 2021 or be sold this summer.

"We won't be selling any players under their value. We know when players' contracts are coming to an end and it's out of the question that any player, especially a key player, will leave on a free transfer," Mintzlaff said, as cited on the club's website.

"We have a great squad, with international talent. Should we not be active in the transfer market, we've got enough good players to do well next season. I can only partly see the necessity to sell. Our team has developed really well under [head coach] Julian Nagelsmann and will get even better. So I'm relaxed going into the window," he added.

Upamecano has been linked with the likes of Bayern München, FC Barcelona and Real Madrid.

However, Sky recently reported that Upamecano is set to extend his contract until 2022.
