Lothar Matthäus understands why Timo Werner has distanced himself from Bayern

Lothar Matthäus understands why Timo Werner felt the need to publicly distance himself from a move to Bayern München.
Timo Werner put rumors linking him with Bayern München to bed, when he recently said that he would prefer to move abroad if he were to take the next step in his career.

In a column for Sky, former German international Lothar Matthäus shows understanding for the RB Leipzig striker's decision.

"The discussion about whether Timo Werner or Leroy Sané would be best suited for Bayern has been going on for quite some time. Werner has now decided to publicly distance himself from Bayern. I can understand his reaction. This back and forth is damaging to him and his performances. Since he extended his contract in Leipzig and was able to concentrate, he has been outstanding," Matthäus wrote and added:

"Now he has let it be known that he would be more inclined to move abroad than to Bayern, and I think that means that this chapter is finally over. Otherwise both parties would lose their credibility."

Werner has been linked with the likes of Liverpool and Inter.
