The former Hamburger SV player Nigel de Jong has made a switch to Mainz.
Mainz have signed the former Dutch international Nigel de Jong on a free transfers from Galatasaray until the summer, the club has confirmed.

The club's sporting director Rouven Schröder is delighted to add an experienced player to his squad.

“Nigel de Jong is a leader with fighting spirit and has a lot of experience playing at a top professional level. We are really pleased to add a player of his ability to the squad,” he told Mainz' official site.

De Jong, who played for Hamburger SV in the Bundesliga from 2006 to 2009, is glad that he has signed for Mainz and that he's back in Germany.

“I know that the team are well organised and want to play good, attacking football. I like the club and its history. They have established themselves very well in the Bundesliga. I want to help the team and the club achieve their goals for the season. I would like to thank Rouven Schröder and Sandro Schwarz for giving me the chance to come here. I am really looking forward to making my return in the Bundesliga,” de Jong said to the club's website.

The 33-year-old made the move to Galatasaray in August 2016 and appeared 24 times for the Turkish club.
