Official: Manuel Neuer extends Bayern deal

Bayern München have extended Manuel Neuer's contract until 2023.
Manuel Neuer has signed a contract extension with Bayern München, the club have announced.

The 34-year-old's contract was due to run out in 2021, but he has now signed an extension, committing himself to the club until 2023.

"During the weeks of the shutdown for the coronavirus pandemic, I didn't want to make a decision because nobody knew if, when and how Bundesliga football would continue," said Neuer in a statement.

"It was important for me to continue working with our goalkeeping coach Toni Tapalovic. Now this has been resolved, I look to the future with great optimism. I feel very comfortable and at home in Bavaria. FC Bayern are one of Europe's top football clubs," he added.

FC Bayern sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic said:

"The contract extension is an important sign for FC Bayern as well as for Manuel. Together we have created a win-win situation. That's what was very important to Manuel and to us. Manuel stands for the continuous success of FC Bayern, for responsibility and world-class standards. I am delighted about our continued work together."

Neuer follows in the footsteps of Thomas Müller, Alphonso Davies and head coach Hansi Flick, who recently signed contract extensions with Bayern as well.

The German international joined Bayern from Schalke 04 in 2011. Since then, he has made 374 appearances for the German champions.
