After a successful loan spell at Hoffenheim, Serge Gnabry has returned to Bayern München.
Now, Gnabry hopes to continue his development at Bayern München despite the huge competition for a spot in the starting eleven.
"All the playing time I had at Hoffenheim has made me take a giant step forward. I have to be on the pitch to improve. That's why the extra year at Hoffenheim was worth its weight in gold," Gnabry told Bild and added:
"We have 60 games to play during the season. We need everyone."
Former German international Lothar Matthäus also stresses that time on the pitch is vital to Gnabry's development. Therefore, the aging Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben will have to accept a break now and then to make way for the 23-year-old.
"Gnabry was one of the most outstanding players in the second half of last season," Matthäus told Bild and continued:
"Niko Kovac will not allow them (Ribery and Robben) to sulk. Both need to understand that breaks are good for them in their age."
Gnabry made 22 appearances for Hoffenheim last season with 10 goals and seven assists to his name.
