RB Leipzig go third with win at Köln

RB Leipzig are back in third place after a 4-2 victory at Köln.
RB Leipzig returned to third place in the Bundesliga with a 4-2 win over FC Köln away from home on Monday.

It was the hosts, who took the lead, when Jhon Cordoba scored after eight minutes, but his effort was cancelled out by Patrik Schick, who headed in a cross from Angelino in the 20th minute.

Six minutes before the break, Leipzig took the lead, when Christopher Nkunku latched on to a great pass from Konrad Laimer and chipped the ball over Timo Horn, who had come out of his goal.

Timo Werner gave RB Leipzig a perfect start to the second half, making it 3-1 with 51 minutes on the clock after a long ball forward from Peter Gulacsi.

Just a few minutes later, Anthony Modeste gave Köln a glimmer of hope, when he curled the ball into the net from the edge of the area to pull one back for the hosts.

But Leipzig went on to make an instant response at the other end, restoring their two-goal lead thanks to a goal from Dani Olmo, who put the ball past Timo Horn to score his first Bundesliga goal.

With the 4-2 win in the bag, RB Leipzig climb two points above Bayer Leverkusen and Borussia Mönchengladbach into third. Having failed to win since the return of the Bundesliga, Köln sit 11th.
