FC Köln managing director Horst Heldt remains optimistic that Jhon Cordoba will sign a contract extension.

Heldt says it's no secret that Cordoba has attracted interest from other clubs with his impressive performances this season.

But he is hopeful that the 27-year-old will opt to stay put and extend his current deal, which expires in 2021.

"It's no secret that we are planning to extend his contract. He's playing a great season. But that's not a secret either," Heldt said in an interview with Express.de and continued:

"The other leagues are taking a break, so everyone has been keeping an eye on Germany and seen Jhon score goals. You don't need a high-school diploma to know that he's in demand.

"But the signals are open and positive. We're doing this in peace. We just need a bit more time," he said.

Cordoba's agent, Christian Wein, has previously said that his client could imagine staying at Köln.

"He feels good, the fans love him - of course Jhon can imagine staying," he told Express.de during the break caused by the coronavirus.

The striker has made 28 appearances this season, racking up 13 goals and three assists.
