Bayern coach Hansi Flick still hopeful of keeping Alaba and Thiago

Bayern München coach Hansi Flick says he will do everything he can to keep David Alaba and Thiago at the club.
Bayern München coach Hansi Flick remains hopeful of keeping David Alaba and Thiago Alcantara, who are both out of contract in 2021 and stalling on new deals.

"I will do everything I can to ensure that we can keep two such quality players," Flick said after Bayern's 4-2 victory over Bayer Leverkusen in the DFB-pokal final on Saturday.

On Alaba, who has played for Bayern since he came through the youth ranks at the club, Flick said:

"David is a very important player for us. A centrepiece. On the pitch, he is a world-class player, and off the pitch he is always positive, motivating his team-mates. I'm confident that he will extend his contract. He has matured into an extraordinary player here."

With Thiago, who has been linked with a move to Liverpool, "it looks a bit more difficult," Flick admitted. But also in this case, he "sees things positively" and is "always hopeful".

FC Bayern CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge recently admitted that "it looks like" Thiago wants to leave.
