Report: Chelsea in pole position to sign Kai Havertz as he sets sights on Leverkusen exit

Chelsea are understood to be in pole position to sign Kai Havertz, who has reportedly told Bayer Leverkusen that he wants to leave.
Kai Havertz has asked for permission to leave Bayer Leverkusen this summer, according to Bild.

Chelsea are considered favorites to land the highly-rated German international. Unlike most other top clubs, 'The Blues' should be ready to meet Leverkusen's asking price of at least €100 million despite the financial impact of the coronavirus pandemic.

According to Bild, Leverkusen will not put any obstacles in the way of Havertz as long as they get the fee they want. A deal that would see Chelsea pay €70 million plus an additional €30-40 million in bonus payments is conceivable.

Real Madrid are also understood to be interested, but the Spanish La Liga giants would not be able to afford Havertz until 2021. And it appears he doesn't want to wait that long before taking the next step in his career.

Havertz, 21, has made 43 appearances for Leverkusen this season with 17 goals and nine assists to his name. His contract with 'Die Werkself' expires in 2022.
