Report: Manchester City show concrete interest in David Alaba

Manchester City are understood to be keen on David Alaba, but the Bayern München star would prefer a move to Spain.
Manchester City are showing concrete interest in Bayern München star David Alaba, according to Sky Germany.

Alaba, who is under contract until 2021, has been stalling on a new deal and is likely to be on the move this summer if the turns down a contract extension.

Despite the fact that he has just one year left on his deal, Bayern will not let the versatile Austrian international go cheaply, Manchester City are one of the few clubs that could afford Alaba in light of the corona crisis.

Chelsea are also understood to be in the race for his signature, but Sky claims that a switch to 'The Blues' seems much less likely at the moment.

According to the German media outlet, Alaba would prefer a move to Spain, where Barcelona has been touted as a potential destination, but the Catalan club can't afford the 28-year-old this summer and are hoping to be able to sign him on a free transfer next summer.

However, Bayern obviously want to avoid losing Alaba for free at all costs and are still hopeful he will sign a new deal.
