VfB Stuttgart sign Waldemar Anton and Gregor Kobel

VfB have completed the signing of Waldemar Anton and Gregor Kobel on contracts that run until 30 June 2024.
The 24-year-old centre-back Waldemar Anton came through the Hannover youth academy and made 137 competitive outings for the first team, registering five goals and four assists.

He also earned 11 caps for the Germany U21s, and last season he made 30 Bundesliga 2 appearances and one in the DFB Cup for Hannover. The defensive specialist will wear the number two shirt at VfB.

VfB sporting director Sven Mislintat says on the club's website: “We’ve been interested in Waldemar Anton for a long time now and are very happy that we could sign him for VfB. On top of his footballing ability and leadership qualities, Waldemar already has a lot of experience for someone his age, having played in the Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2 for Hannover in the past few years. As such, he’s got all the requirements to become an important member of our defensive line. We warmly welcome Waldemar to VfB.”

And Waldemar Anton adds: “I’m really delighted the transfer could be completed. I had a few offers but I knew very quickly that I wanted to come to VfB at all costs. It’s a club steeped in tradition and it means something to the people in the region. That played a role in my decision, as did the discussions with the management at VfB, who really made a lot of effort to sign me and had a clear vision for the path forward. That impressed me a lot.”

Gregor Kobel
Gregor Kobel will remain as VfB Stuttgart’s keeper after the club completed a permanent deal with TSG Hoffenheim on a permanent move. Both clubs agreed not to disclose the transfer fee.

The 22-year-old, who spent the past season on loan at VfB, has penned a contract valid until 30 June 2024. The Swiss stopper made 31 Bundesliga 2 appearances in the promotion-winning campaign in 2019/20, keeping 10 clean sheets.
