Thomas Müller: Thiago and Alaba exits would be 'extremely bitter'

Thomas Müller has hailed Thiago Alcantara and David Alaba amid reports that the duo could leave Bayern München this summer.
Thomas Müller believes it will be 'extremely bitter' if Thiago Alcantara and David Alaba leave the club this summer.

With just one year left on their current deals with Bayern, the duo have been linked with moves away from the club. But Müller would be sad to see his two teammates go.

"Both give the team a lot, especially in this constellation, with this coach and playing style. They are extremely important players for us, and they can remain so for the years to come," Müller told SZ after Bayern beat Olympique Marseille 1-0 in a friendly on Friday.

"Thiago's ability on the ball does us good, and he also works very aggressively without the ball, which is often underestimated. And David is extremely important for controlling games and our build-up play. I'd like them both to stay," he added.

FC Bayern CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge recently said he remains 'optimistic' that Alaba will put pen to paper on a new deal.

Thiago looks more likely to leave after informing the club that he would like to try something new before the end of his career.
