Benjamin Stambouli inks new Schalke deal

Schalke 04 have extended Benjamin Stambouli's contract.
Benjamin Stambouli has signed a new contract with Schalke 04, the Bundesliga side have announced.

The Frenchman, who was out of contract at the end of last season, has put pen to paper on a new deal until 2023.

"We’re really happy that Benji is staying at Schalke. It goes without saying that he is an excellent footballer. But his value extends well beyond the football pitch," said Schalke head of sport Jochen Schneider in a statement.

"Benji is a leader who carries a lot of respect in the dressing room. He lives and breaths this club and its values."

Stambouli commented:

"I’m really happy to continue playing with Schalke. Everyone knows how close I hold the club, and especially the fans, to my heart. Now we will do everything to have a good season."

The Frenchman played 10 appearances for Schalke 04 last season before sustaining a foot injury, which kept him out of the rest of the campaign.
