Official: Max Kruse joins Union Berlin
Max Kruse returns to Germany to play for Union Berlin.
Union Berlin have signed former Werder Bremen forward Max Kruse on a free transfer, subject to a medical.
The 32-year-old, who was a free agent after his contract with Turkish outfit Fenerbahce was terminated earlier this summer, joins Union Berlin for the upcoming season.
"I'm happy to be playing in the Bundesliga again and to get to know a cool new club like Union, who have developed really well in recent years. It was important for me to switch to a club that completely convinces and challenges me. During the conversations with those responsible at Union I felt immediately comfortable, that's why I decided to join Union," said Kruse in a statement.
Union Berlin director of professional football Oliver Ruhnert commented:
"With Max Kruse, we were able to sign a player who has proven his quality for years both nationally and internationally. With his offensive qualities and Bundesliga experience, he will help us achieve our goals in the new season. We're very pleased that a player of this quality for free, had many options and decided to sign up with Union despite the fact that the payout was much higher, which shows that Union as a club can score points with other values."
It was announced on Wednesday that Kruse had turned down interest from his former club Werder Bremen.
The 32-year-old has also played for FC St. Pauli, Freiburg, Borussia Mönchengladbach and Wolfsburg in the past.
