Kevin Kampl reveals admiration for Zinedine Zidane

Kevin Kampl says he idolized Zinedine Zidane as a child.
RB Leipzig midfielder Kevin Kampl has opened up on his admiration for Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane.

When he was younger, Kampl tried to emulate the former French international, who played for Cannes, Bordeaux, Juventus and Real Madrid throughout his illustrious career.

"Zinedine Zidane was my idol from day one. I tried to play like him as a child. Even today, he still impresses me. It would be great to see Zidane live and play against his team - and win, of course," Kampl told Sport Bild.

Kampl and RB Leipzig are set to return to action on Thursday, taking on Real's local rivals Atlético Madrid in the Champions League quarter-finals.

Speaking ahead of the game, Kampl suggests it could be an advantage for RB Leipzig that the quarter-finals and semi-finals will only be played over one leg, meaning that the road to the final is shorter than per usual.

"We deserve to be in the Champions League quarter-finals. From now on, it's always just one game, always one win. You only need three wins to win the big title. You have to realize that. We're going to give everything we've got to get far, even if we're not the favorites," the midfielder said.
