Bayern München CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has confirmed that Javi Martinez has asked for permission to leave the club this summer.

"We know that he would like to leave the club if a suitable offer comes in for him," Rummenigge told AZ.

"And we don't want to put any obstacles in his way, because he has always been a good player and a reliable, serious person. We will always try to find a solution that suits the player," he continued.

Martinez, 31, made just six Bundesliga starts for Bayern last season. He was signed from Athletic for €40 million in 2012 and has one year left on his current deal.
