Dortmund boss Michael Zorc expecting great things from Giovanni Reyna

Borussia Dortmund boss Michael Zorc is expecting Giovanni Reyna to take the next step in his development in the upcoming season.
Borussia Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc is excited to see what the future will bring for 17-year-old Giovanni Reyna, who has featured regularly for 'Die Schwarzgelben' in 2020.

"Giovanni made a huge leap forward in the second half of last season," Zorc said in an interview with Sport Bild.

"At the age of 17, he has already played 15 Bundesliga games, has been in the starting eleven several times and showed against Leipzig that he can definitely play at the highest level," he added, referring to Dortmund's 2-0 win over 'Die Roten Bullen' in June, which saw Reyna set up Erling Haaland's opener.

The BVB sporting director believes Reyna is capable of developing in similar way to Jadon Sancho, who has emerged as one of the club's most important players since his arrival from Manchester City in 2017.

"'Gio' is still extremely young, but he has a lot of the qualities that we need, especially technical ability, speed and the ability to score goals. I'm sure we'll have a lot of fun with him in the new season," said Zorc.

Reyna has made two starts and a total of 18 appearances for Dortmund's first team so far.
