RB Leipzig have no intentions of letting go of Dayot Upamecano or Julian Nagelsmann, says sporting director Markus Krösche.

Before the coronavirus hit, Upamecano was widely expected to leave the club at the end of the 2019/20 campaign.

The 21-year-old had just one year left on his deal, which included a €60 million release clause, but nobody wanted to match it due to the financial strains caused by the pandemic.

Therefore, the parties agreed a contract extension until 2023 with a release clause, reported to be in the region of €42 million, which will become active next summer.

Even though he recently signed a new deal, Upamecano's impressive performance against Atlético Madrid in the Champions League last week reignited speculation linking the centre-back with a move away from the club this summer.

But RB Leipzig sporting director Markus Krösche now makes it clear once and for all that Upamecano will be staying for next season.

"He will definitely stay with us for next season," Krösche said, according to Kicker.

"You don't extend your contract just to leave right away," he added.

RB Leipzig coach Julian Nagelsmann, who is under contract until 2023, is fully expected to stay on board as well.

"It's nice that he gets so much positive feedback. But he is 100 percent with RB Leipzig," said Krösche.
