Florian Neuhaus reflects on his first Germany call-up

Borussia Mönchengladbach midfielder Florian Neuhaus has reflected on his first call-up to the German national team.
When Germany coach Joachim Löw announced his squad for the upcoming UEFA Nations League games against Spain and Switzerland, Florian Neuhaus was included for the first time.

In an interview with Sport Bild, the Gladbach midfielder opens up on how he reacted to his first international call-up.

"I didn't know his number before, but I knew from some of my teammates what the national team coach's area code is. When the phone rang, I anticipated that it would be him. But I was still a bit excited. It was a cool conversation, I was totally happy," Neuhaus said and added:

"I see the call-up as an approval of my performances in the past season. But I won't rest on my laurels now. I believe that we are on a very good path in Gladbach. And I want to do my part to ensure we pick up where we left off last season."

Asked about his goals for the new season, Neuhaus responded:

"I want to improve, so that I can help the team even more. For me personally, it's not scoring or making assists that count, but my influence on our game. I think that I can give the team a lot with my playing style. I want to show that I am important for the team."

The 23-year-old central midfielder made a total of 37 appearances last season, racking up four goals and two assists.
