AS Monaco coach Niko Kovac denies interest in Mario Götze

There is 'zero-point-zero percent' truth to the rumors linking Mario Götze with AS Monaco, says Niko Kovac.
AS Monaco coach Niko Kovac has poured cold water on speculation linking the French Ligue 1 side with Mario Götze.

Reports have claimed that Monaco have shown interest in the 28-year-old, who is available on a free transfer after he left Borussia Dortmund following the expiry of his contract at the end of last season. Kovac, however, insists the rumors are not true.

"There's zero-point-zero percent truth to that," the former Bayern München coach told Sport Bild.

AS Monaco recently completed the signing of Kevin Volland from Bayer Leverkusen, and it turns out Kovac had an interest in bringing him to Bayern in the past.

"I brought this up once once, yes. The idea was to sign Kevin as a back-up for Robert Lewandowski," said the 48-year-old, who was dismissed as Bayern coach and replaced by Hansi Flick back in November.
