Report: Paciencia close to joining Schalke

Schalke 04 look to bolster their attack by reeling in Frankfurt's current third-choice striker.
“Hessischer Rundfunk” radio reports that a transfer sending Frankfurt attacker Goncalo Pacienciab to Schalke 04 is imminent. German footballing magazine Kicker confirms that the Königsbluaen are negotiating a potential one-year loan with a purchase option, but notes that other clubs remain interested in the Portuguese striker.

David Wagner could do much worse than the 26-year-old international in his quest to rebuild the Schalke attack. Though an injury left Paciencia unable to contribute much to the SGE in the second half of the 2019/20 campaign, he did score seven goals during a very strong opening 17 fixtures. He scored an additional three goals in Frankfurt’s Europa League Qualifying Campaign.

Paciencia remains eager to accrue playing time ahead of next summer’s postponed European Championships. He’ll need to put together a prolific season to earn a call up from Portuguese national team trainer Fernando Santos.
