Angelino on reported interest from Barcelona: 'It was always clear that I wanted to stay at RB Leipzig'

Angelino has opened up on his decision to return to RB Leipzig from Manchester City for the 2020/21 campaign.
Angelino has commented on speculation that FC Barcelona showed interest in him in the summer, telling Sport Bild that he didn't want to join anyone else but RB Leipzig.

After spending the second half of last season at RB Leipzig, the 23-year-old has re-joined RB Leipzig on loan with an option to buy after weeks of negotiations between the two clubs.

The 23-year-old was linked with a move to Barcelona during the summer, but insists he never considered going anywhere else but Leipzig.

"It's great that one of the biggest clubs in the world wanted me. But in my head, it was always clear that I wanted to stay at RB and not join another club - no matter who it was. Leipzig suit me, and the big goals of the club fascinate me. I'm just as hungry as the club," Angelino said.

"RB invested a lot of work to make everything possible. I'm glad that the clubs were able to come to an agreement, because now I'm back at the club, where I feel most comfortable and where I get along well with everyone. This made it an easy decision to make."

"The coach was a main reason for me signing. I have been inspired by his philosophy and playing style from the beginning. He often told me that he wanted to keep me and that I was an important part of the team. Being told that you are really needed gives you a good feeling as a player. I felt this connection to the club from day one, and my teammates made it easy for me to immediately put in top performances," said the left-back.
