Schalke 04 have confirmed that Manuel Baum will succeed David Wagner as the club's head coach.

Baum, 41, has left his job as Germany U18 coach to take over the position at Veltins-Arena, where former Schalke defender Naldo will be part of his coaching staff.

"We are convinced that Manuel Baum is a very good match for Schalke 04 as a person and coach. At this point, we would like to thank the DFB in particular for letting Manuel Baum join us quickly," said Schalke 04 head of sport Jochen Schneider.

According to reports, the former Augsburg coach has seen off competition from Dimitrios Grammozis to land the vacant job.

Baum has previously coached Augsburg in the Bundesliga from December 2016 until April 2019, winning an average of 1.12 points in 85 games.

Schalke are rock bottom after losing their first two games of the season to Bayern München (8-0) and Werder Bremen (1-3).

In their next game, 'The Royal Blues' lock horns with RB Leipzig away from home on Saturday.
