Confirmed: Goretzka signs for Bayern

Leon Goretzka's summer move to Bayern München has been confirmed by Schalke 04.
The arguably biggest transfer saga of the Bundesliga this season has come to a close. Leon Goretzka will switch from Schalke 04 to Bayern München when his contract expires in the summer, both clubs have confirmed.

Goretzka has signed a contract that will run out in 2022.

"Leon Goretzka informed us earlier this week that he wishes to leave the club and join Bayern München. We were very sorry to hear this. Karl-Heinz Rummenigge told us yesterday that Leon has completed a medical. We are losing a very very good player," Schalke's director of sport, Christian Heidel, said at a press conference today.

"He has signed a contract with FC Bayern from the 1st July 2018. We did everything we could to try and keep him. In summer he and his agent reached an agreement, but he wanted time to develop. We can cope with this situation, it wasn't a complete surprise. We are prepared for this," he added.

Goretzka, 22, has played for Schalke 04 since 2013 when he joined the club from Bochum.
