Löw cuts five players ahead of Nations League fixtures

The latest team news is in as Joachim Löw and the German Nationalmannscaft head to the Ukraine for a Saturday matchup.
Bundestrainer Joachim Löw needed to reduce his side by six footballers to re-enter the UEFA Nations League competition with a 23-man-squad. Since Schalke's Suat Serdar was unable to accept his call-up due to injury, the pool available for Wednesday's friendly actually needed to shed five players.

The Nationalmannschaft will head to Kiev minus Benjamin Henrichs (RB Leipzig), Nico Schulz (Borussia Dortmund), Niklas Stark (Hertha BSC), Nadiem Amiri (Bayer 04 Leverkusen), and Mamoud Dahoud (also of Dortmund). All five players saw some action in the 3-3 draw with Turkey. Schulz and Henrichs started while the remaining three came on as subs.

Löw also announced that Toni Kroos (injury) and Timo Werner (illness) had rejoined the team in time for the trip. All six Bayern and Leipzig players who Löw gave time off in September following the delayed conclusion of the 2019/20 Champions league will also headed to the Ukraine.

"We've set high goals for ourselves in both Nations League matches," Löw told reporters on Thursday evening, "We wish to reward ourselves with victories for the efforts we've put it."

Löw's Nationalelf still seek their first victory in the newly formed Nations League after playing six fixtures.
