Schalke coach Manuel Baum targets further improvement after Union draw

Schalke 04 coach Manuel Baum eyes further improvement after his side won their first point of the season on Sunday.
Crisis-hit Schalke 04 picked up their first point of the season on Sunday as they drew 1-1 with Union Berlin at Veltins-Arena.

Schalke coach Manuel Baum felt a draw was a fair result, admitting his side still have plenty of room for improvement.

"A point is fair for both teams. You need to consider the game from different perspective. From a passion, fight, running and sprints perspective, we put in a great performance. The reaction after going behind was also good. We weren’t really affected by the goal like we had been in previous games. But we also know there is room to improve in terms of the quality of our play," Baum said after the final whistle, according to the club.

"We’re not too happy with our build-up, the pressing structure also wasn’t always ideal. There are still a few things to iron out. Which is why it’s even more important that we at least show fight and leave our hearts on the pitch in order to experience the small wins on the pitch."
