Lothar Matthäus likens surging Matthias Ginter to Sergio Ramos

Providing some commentary for SkyGermany on Tuesday night, German footballing legend Lothar Matthäus offered some unique praise for Gladbach's talismanic defensive leader.
"I believe that Matthias Ginter has taken a gigantic step forward," 59-year-old Lothar Matthäus remarked when asked to name one of Marco Rose's most influential players on Tuesday evening, "He has become extremely self-confident and has a big personality."

"He's become a leader on the pitch," the World Champion continued, "[on the other side] you have a very good example in Sergio Ramos. Someone  back there who must dictate; someone who is responsible for himself and who has to lead the others. Right now Matthias Ginter is doing that very well."

The 26-year-old German national team defender has certainly found success at his third Bundesliga club. Since arriving from Borussia Dortmund for €17 million in 2017, the defender has easily doubled his market value. Other clubs definitely wish to splurge for him.

Chelsea and Athletico Madrid tendered offers for his over the summer. It was recently confirmed that the club turned down a €50 million from Serie A giants Inter Milan.

Ginter has repeatedly stated that he is in no hurry to leave Nordrhein-Westfallen. On the other hand, he appears in no hurry to extend his current contract--which expires in 2022--either.

Perhaps Germany's best defender at this precise seems content to ride the wave of adulation and praise to see where it takes him.
