For much of the first half it appeared as if Germany's young Saxon club might be headed for another humiliation. Five lineup changes saw the 32-year-old trainer trot out a 3-4-3 consisting of his higher caliber players. Natural winger Emil Forsberg once again worked as the sole center forward.

Despite the fact that PSG trainer was missing several key actors, his makeshift site definitely looked the stronger in the opening minutes. A defensive giveaway by Dayot Upamecan led to the German hosts falling behind 0-1 in the 6th minute.

Upamecano would be judged to have handled the ball inside the box ten minutes later. Parisian forward Angel di Maria could only muster a weak penalty, however. Leipzig keeper Peter Gulasci held the ball to keep Nagelsmann's men from falling behind even further.

Christopher Nkunku surprisingly supplied the equalizer against the run of play with a handsome effort in from 16 meters out in the 42nd.

Leipzig emerged from the tunnel looking much for inspired. Forsberg got a good effort close in the 53rd, then covered a penalty four minutes later. Circumstances were not dissimilar to the Upamecano handball, with Prisnel Kimpembe being the guilty party this time.

After Forsberg's finishing put the hosts back ahead, chances for a PSG comeback were dampened by a sending off of Idrissa Gana Gueye on double yellow in the 69th. Kimpembe himself would also be sent off on double yellows in injury time.
