Union Berlin confirm Max Kruse potentially lost for rest of 2020

Berlin's Köpenick club confirmed the most unfortunate news on Saturday afternoon.

Talismanic short-striker Max Kruse suffered a thigh muscle tear in the waning moments of Friday's derby and will most likely be out for the rest of the year.
The official word from 1. FC Union Berlin's club website states that Max Kruse will be unavailable "in the coming weeks." Such a diagnosis carries with it grim connotations as there less than three weeks of fixtures remaining before German football adjourns for the remainder of the calendar year.

Urs Fischer will have to make do without his most influential player (six goals, five assists) just as the Eisernen prepare to enter a very difficult scheduling stretch. Union faces Bayern, Stuttgart, and Dortmund in their next three league fixtures. The club also squares off against SC Paderborn 07 in the 2nd round of the DFB Pokal two days before Christmas.

No further information has been disseminated at this time. A torn muscle, however, ordinarily necessitates several weeks of recuperation.
