Jochen Schneider backs Manuel Baum to turn things around at Schalke 04

Schalke 04 chief Jochen Schneider has expressed faith in head coach Manuel Baum despite another disappointing defeat.
Schalke 04 head of sport Jochen Schneider insists head coach Manuel Baum can get the club out of their slump.

After replacing David Wagner towards the end of September, Baum is yet to win a league game. In fact, Schalke are winless in 26 league games following Sunday's 0-3 defeat to Bayer Leverkusen at home on Sunday.

Nevertheless, Schneider still appears to have faith in the former Augsburg coach. Asked if he still believes Baum can turn things around at the club, the Schalke chief answered with a simple "Yes".

"There is no point in us focusing on those horrible statistics," said Schneider, referring to Schalke's winless run.

"We need to make sure that we improve our game bit by bit," he added.

Baum was visibly annoyed after his team's loss to Leverkusen.

"It really makes me sick. I have to say that I'm hopping mad that we don't get more out of a game like this," the Schalke coach told reporters after the final whistle.

"We run 120 kilometers and put in more sprints than any other Bundesliga team, and we're so mad at ourselves that we're not able to convert our energy into points.

"We need to be better at defending set pieces in particular. We need to come out on top in these one-on-one situations," he said.

Schalke are rock bottom of the Bundesliga with three points after 10 games.
