"I don't give a damn what's written"

Hansi Flick's FCB didn't need a win on Wednesday night against Lokomotiv Moscow to ensure safe passage to the UCL knockouts. The German Champions, impressively enough, already clinched their place with a win over RB Salzburg some two weeks prior.

The defending UCL winners nevertheless took three points anyway behind goals from Niklas Süle and back-up striker Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting. Süle, who had been the recent target of criticisms regarding his fitness levels, blew off some steam in an interview with Sky reporters.

"When I play like crap, I don't have much interest in interviews," the German national team defender told those behind the microphones, "When I play well, I don't have much interest in doing them either."

Süle maintained a blunt tone throughout. "I'm very happy that we concluded the group phase with a win," he noted, "We've just been incredibly strong in this competition in 2020. I don't give a damn what's written."

Süle's trainer also appeared to put all of the talk of Süle not managing his weight and fitness levels behind him.

"We're all very happy that Niklas put us on track for a win with his set-piece execution," Flick told the press, "We stood tall and Niki contributed to that. I'm very pleased with Niklas' development."

Earlier issues with Süle, according to the Bild Zeitung, revolved around the fact that he reported back for duty after a false positive corona-test and a stint with the national team two kilos over his ideal weight. For many football observers, the Wednesday night fixture constituted the first time the 25-year-old looked to be in top form for several weeks.
