Borussia Dortmund president Reinhard Rauball: 'We had no alternative but to sack Favre'

The Borussia Dortmund management unanimously agreed that it was time to part ways with Lucien Favre, claims club president Reinhard Rauball.
Borussia Dortmund president Reinhard Rauball says the club were left with no choice but to dismiss Lucien Favre as head coach following Saturday's underwhelming 1-5 defeat at home to VfB Stuttgart.

"All those responsible at the club agreed that we had no alternative but to react now and part ways with Favre," Rauball told Ruhr Nachrichten.

"From a human perspective, I'm very sorry for him. But there are situations in football that require decisions that you could possibly not make from a purely human perspective," he added.

It will now be up to Favre's former assistant Edin Terzic, who has been put in charge until the end of the season, to turn things around. Above all, Rauball is expecting to see a reaction from the players.

"No matter what system you play, whether you love it or not or what your line-up looks like, the 11 players who are on the pitch are called upon to give their best for Borussia Dortmund," said the Dortmund chief.

Terzic and Dortmund lock horns with Werder Bremen tonight.
