Wolfsburg coach Oliver Glasner on Wednesday's 2-1 loss to Bayern: 'We deserved a draw'

Despite falling to a 2-1 defeat, Wolfsburg coach Oliver Glasner felt there were plenty of positives to take from Wednesday's Bundesliga clash with Bayern München.
Wolfsburg coach Oliver Glasner was pleased with his team's performance against Bayern München on Wednesday despite losing 2-1.

Speaking in a post-match interview, Glasner said he felt a draw would have been a fair result.

"It's a shame for the team that it wasn't enough to get a point today. They'd have deserved that. The boys did a lot of things right: they limited Bayern to relatively few clear-cut chances but kept on creating some good opportunities for themselves. On top of that, we also scored a really nice goal," said Glasner.

"It's a shame to end up empty-handed after investing so much in the game. Small details were all that was lacking. I'm very satisfied with the performance. It really was a great display."

FC Bayern coach Hansi Flick was naturally delighted to see his side come out on top.

"That was a lively game for neutrals to watch. Wolfsburg have a lot of quality and a good philosophy of how to play football. You could see that. We fought back after going behind and our equaliser to make it 1-1 just before half-time was very important," said Flick.

"We really wanted to win in order to send out a message, so I'm pleased we did that. Now we want to end what has been a successful year with three more points in Leverkusen."

With one Bundesliga game left to play in 2020, Bayern sit second in the Bundesliga table, one point behind Bayer Leverkusen, who they will face on Saturday.
