Borussia Mönchengladbach forward Marcus Thuram has been handed a six-game suspension by the German Football Association (DFB) following his sending off in Saturday's 1-2 loss against Hoffenheim.

Additionally, Thuram has been punished with a monetary fine of €40,000.

The 23-year-old was shown a straight red card for spitting at Hoffenheim defender Stefan Posch.

Borussia Mönchengladbach have since fined him a sum equivalent to one month's wage, 'which will likely be followed by an internal ban issued by the club,' a statement on Sunday read.
