Multiple sources confirm: Christian Groß is Schalke 04's new head-coach

All of Germany's major football reporting outlets now confirm that 66-year-old Christian Groß has been appointed the new trainer of Bundesliga club FC Schalke 04.
As of Wednesday evening, contact negotiations are still being finalized. Reliable sources at "Kicker", "SportBild", "Ruhr Nachrichten", and "SkyGermany" nevertheless confirm that former VfB Stuttgart trainer has been selected as the new trainer of relegation-threatened Bundesliga side FC Schalke 04.

The 66-year-old coach returns to Germany for his first club appointment in nearly a decade. After leading Stuttgart from the relegation race in the 2009/10 campaign, Groß was dismissed when the Swabians got off to a slow start in the subsequent season. Since then, he has coached in his native Switzerland, Egypt, and Saudi Arabia.

Prior to his Bundesliga appointment, Groß also led Grasshopper Zürich to two Alpo league titles in the 1990s, severed briefly as head coach of Tottenham Hotspur, and then led FC Basel to four Swiss League Championships in the early 2000s.

German footballing magazine Kicker reports than his base salary will be relatively low and that his contract will only be through the end of the season. At present, the club apparently puts the finishing touches on a seven-figure bonus to be awarded if he can keep die Königsblauen in the top division.
