Report: Leverkusen target EPL fullback to bolster defense

SkyGermany reports that Bayer 04 Leverkusen have identified their top target for their urgent need at the right fullback position.
Germany's red company team still find themselves flush with cash after the autumn transfers of Kevin Volland and Kai Havertz. It looks to be a busy transfer window for the second-place club as Rudi Völler and die Werskelf prepare to mount a serious title challenge this spring.

The most critical need for a team still competing across three competitions remains in the defensive corps. At right-back, the Santiago Arias injury immediately threw a wrench into head-coach Peter Bosz's plans for the position.

Lars Bender, struggling with his own injuries, has been unable to fill the role consistently. Mitchell Weiser and Aleksandr Dragovic are both on the list of potential departures in the coming window.

Bayer do still maintain depth at left-back. SkyGermany now reports that currently target another player from that side who has shown promise converting to the right.

Twenty-year-old England international Brandon Williams found himself displaced at Manchester United after Alex Telles was acquired to take over his position last summer. After making 38 appearances last year, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has found scant cause to use him in the current campaign.

Williams has made only five appearances for the English Red Devils in the league this year; all in relief. He started one league cup game on the right.

Sky reports that possible impediments to the deal include ManU's reluctance to let Williams go on a full transfer and the interest of many other Premiership clubs.

Southampton FC are also said to be interested.
