Lothar Matthäus backs RB Leipzig to win their first title this season

Lothar Matthäus has waxed lyrical about Julian Nagelsmann's RB Leipzig team.
Former German international Lothar Matthäus has backed RB Leipzig to win their first big title this season.

About halfway into the season, 'Die Roten Bullen' sit second in the Bundesliga table and are in the last 16 of the Champions League and the DFB-Pokal.

Nagelsmann's team have made a very positive impression on Matthäus, who wouldn't be surprised to see them go all the way in one of the three competitions.

"Julian Nagelsmann is doing a top job, the team is young, has grown together and continues to learn from game to game. In the Champions League, RB have already proven that they can compete at the knockout stages," Matthäus told Sport Bild and added:

"I believe that Leipzig will win their first title this season and trust them to win the DFB-Pokal, for example. Their only danger is the possible unrest caused by transfer speculation surrounding players like [Marcel] Sabitzer and [Dayot] Upamecano."

Both Sabitzer and Upamecano have been linked with clubs from the English Premier League.

In their next game, RB Leipzig lock horns with Borussia Dortmund on Saturday evening.
