Southampton's Yan Valery linked with Schalke 04

The Saints have reportedly offered Valery to Schalke and the French youngster can be a valuable addition to the Royal Blues, but is the interest mutual?
Crisis-hit Schalke are looking to bolster up their ranks and reinvigorate the team with new faces. Having already secured the services of Sead Kolasinac in the past few days, it will be interesting to see who else end up in Gelsenkirchen.

After their 30th straight Bundesliga defeat, slumping to a 0-3 loss against Hertha Berlin, head coach Christian Gross stressed on the need for new transfers. With financial distress already on the club’s plate for some time now, recruiting new players will be an uphill task.

A new name has popped up in recent days. Southampton full-back Yan Valery is on the tabs. According to a report by Sky Germany, via Fussballtransfers.com, Schalke have been presented with an opportunity to sign the French prodigy who is yet to cement a place in Ralph Hasenhüttl’s side.

With regular play time not guaranteed, Valery will undoubtedly be considering his future options. The 21-year-old signed a contract extension with the Saints last year, keeping him at the Premier League club until 2023.

However, it is not clear if the German club are equally committed to see the transfer through. With Leverkusen’s Mitchell Weiser under serious consideration for Schalke 04 and Southampton lacking depth in full-back positions, it remains to be seen how things play out.
