Hansi Flick confirms Kimmich will stay in midfield despite Bayern's right-back problems

Bayern München coach Hansi Flick has underlined that he doesn't see Joshua Kimmich as a long-term solution at right-back.
Bayern München coach Hansi Flick has confirmed that Joshua Kimmich will play in midfield instead of at right-back against Borussia Mönchengladbach on Friday.

Bayern came back from a two-goal half-time deficit to beat Mainz 5-2 in the Bundesliga last week after Kimmich was moved from the centre to right-back at the break, replacing Benjamin Pavard, who has struggled to return to top form after recovering from an injury.

But although Kimmich made a huge impact on the right in the second half against Mainz, scoring and setting up a goal, Flick wants to use him in midfield on Friday.

"Kimmich will play as a number six against Gladbach. Like many others, 'Benji' [Pavard] has a very good first half of 2020. Until his injury, he was one of our most consistent players and developed very well. He tried to come back relatively quickly, and maybe he's not at 100 percent. But he's getting our full support and will get his form back," said Flick at the pre-match press conference.
