Pep Guardiola challenges sextuple winners FC Bayern to a 'seventh-title' match

The Manchester City boss managed the Bavarians from 2013 to 2016 - winning three consecutive Bundesliga titles along with the Club World Cup in 2013.
Former FC Barcelona boss Pep Guardiola who led the Catalonians to an unprecedented sextuple in 2009, congratulated and jokingly challenged Bayern Munich’s Hansi Flick to a ‘seventh-title showdown’.

Bayern snatched a 1-0 victory against Tigres, thanks to Benjamin Pavard’s solitary goal, which was enough to seal a magnificent sixth title in the space of ten months – a feat that has been achieved only once before in history. The Club World Cup title in Qatar is now part of Bayern’s trophy-hold consisting of the Bundesliga, UEFA Champions League, DFB Pokal, DFL Super Cup and European Super Cup.

The Manchester City boss shared a video on Twitter, offering his heartfelt compliments to the champions of Europe, in a season where Bayern destroyed oppositions with utmost ease – including Pep’s beloved Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League quarter-final by a six goal difference in a historic 8-2 drubbing.

Congratulating Bayern on their achievement, Guardiola said: “Big congratulations to all the Bayern family for this incredible success, to be the Club World Cup champions and especially to win six titles. We are so proud, I am so proud, a big congratulations for everyone, especially Hansi, the players and the backroom staff for this amazing thing.”

He was quick to remind the Bavarians that they are only next to the team who did the sextuple first, and jokingly said he would call Messi to be part of a ‘seventh-title match’:

“But I would like to say to Hansi that you are the second team to win the six titles in a row! Before you, there was another team, Barcelona. So maybe I can call Messi and company and we can play for the seventh title? Tell me when and where and we will be there!”

Hansi Flick’s Bayern have been a force to be reckoned with ever since his appointment, although their form earlier this season showed otherwise.
