Bayer Leverkusen extend Julian Baumgartlinger's contract

Bayer Leverkusen have announced that Julian Baumgartlinger has signed a contract extension.
Julian Baumgartlinger's has put pen to paper on a new deal with Bayer Leverkusen until 2022.

In an official statement on Wednesday, the Bundesliga club confirmed that that midfielder's deal, which was due to expire this summer, has been extended by a further year.

"Julian has once again impressively demonstrated his value and importance to our squad this season," Leverkusen sporting director Simon Rolfes said on the 33-year-old veteran, who is currently sidelined with a cruciate ligament injury.

"He has taken responsibility and stepped forward when it was particularly needed - in a phase marked by many absences due to injury.

"We are delighted to have him as a proven leader in our ranks for another year after his recovery."

Baumgartlinger has made 23 appearances for Leverkusen this season with three goals and one assist to his name.
