Borussia soon got celebrations underway after the match in Gelsenkirchen, on the way back to Dortmund, parading in the team bus without any social distancing and without mouth and nose protection – according to reports by Kicker.
Although Dortmund were quick to apologise for their mistake, DFL nonetheless imposed a hefty fine of 75,000 euros for flouting coronavirus rules and regulations that look to prevent any such actions taking place.
In a statement released by BVB, the club said: "There were violations of the corona rules in public yesterday evening during the return trip of the team to the training ground, which cannot be tolerated. We can only apologize and promise to talk to the police and everyone involved very promptly about how such scenes can be completely ruled out in public in the future.”
The Dortmund players even celebrated after their emphatic 4-0 victory in the Revierderby infront of an empty Veltins Arena stand. Post-match, around 150-200 fans were also reportedly were involved in the proceedings without maintaining any social distancing.
Dortmund chief Hans-Joachim Watzke spoke of the incident, saying: "I understand the joy, but of course there were clear violations - and we can only apologize for that.”
