Matthäus: Wagner or Uth could have helped Germany

Former German international Lothar Matthäus believes Joachim Löw should have called up Sandro Wagner or Mark Uth.
When German national team coach Joachim Löw recently announced his squad for Germany's upcoming games, there were just two 'real' centre-forwards among the names - RB Leipzig's Timo Werner and SC Freiburg's Nils Petersen.

According to former German international Lothar Matthäus, 'Die Mannschaft' currently have a problem at the striker position, and he claims Bayern München's Sandro Wagner and Schalke 04's Mark Uth could have helped Germany.

Wagner announced his international retirement in May, but Matthäus believes he will return if he is called upon.

"I'm sure that Sandro Wagner would like to come back if 'Jogi' Löw asks for a conversation with him. However, Sandro is already 30 years old, and looking at the future, he isn't in his very best age," Matthaüs wrote in his column for Sky and continued:

"But Mark Uth would have been a nice alternative. He was the second-best German goalscorer after Thomas Müller last season with 14 goals and nine assists. You could bring him along."

In the upcoming games, Germany will face France (UEFA Nations League, September 6) and Peru (friendly, September 9).
