Klaus Fischer backs Robert Lewandowski to break Gerd Müller's goal-scoring record

Former Germany international Klaus Fischer has backed Robert Lewandowski to break Gerd Müller's record of most goals scored in a Bundesliga season.
With 31 goals in 23 league games to his name for Bayern München in the 2020/21 campaign so far, Robert Lewandowski is on track to pass Gerd Müller's record of 40 goals in a single Bundesliga season that was set in the 1971/72 season.

Former German international striker Klaus Fischer is confident the Polish international will break the record as long as he stays clear of injuries.

"I'm convinced he'll score 40 goals or even more if he stays injury-free. He still has 10 games left," Fischer told AZ.

"I would never have thought that Gerd Müller's record would actually come under threat. It's an incredible achievement by Lewandowski. He can do it."

In total, Lewandowski has found the net 267 times in 344 Bundesliga appearances for Borussia Dortmund and FC Bayern.
