Steffen's injury leaves Wolfsburg without four regulars for Saturday

Whether through injury, suspension, or yellow-card accumulation, Oliver Glasner's 4-2-3-1 faces a significant overhaul this weekend.

On Tuesday, the club confirmed that Swiss winger Renato Steffen will be out long-term after tearing a ligament in his left ankle.
The waning stages of this weekend's Wolfsburg-Hoffenheim duel featured a number of hard fouls. It was already confirmed this morning that VfB fullback Paulo Otavio must serve a four-match ban for a vicious tactical foul on Munus Dabbur.

Another player entering match official Markus Schmidt's book during the late scuffles was Hoffenheim's Ryan Sessegnon. The Tottenham prospect caught Wolfsburg's Renato Steffen with a very late challenge on the ankle.

Steffen ultimately couldn't continue and had to be subbed off in the 71st minute. Head coach Oliver Glasner immediately spoke of a serious injury. The club confirmed the 29-year-old's long-term absence early Tuesday.

In addition to Otavio and Steffen, defender Maxence Lacroix and midfield linchpin Xaver Schlager also saw their fifth yellow cards of the campaign in Saturday's fixture. Both must sit out the coming encounter against Schalke.
