Schalke 04 midfielder Omar Mascarell has expressed desire to leave Germany at the end of the season.

"I have had spectacular years at Eintracht Frankfurt and Schalke, where I fulfilled my dream of playing in the Champions League. Nevertheless, after five years, I would like to look for a new adventure elsewhere," Mascarell told AS.

The Spaniard, who was replaced as captain by Sead Kolasinac earlier this season, emphasized that he doesn't want to leave just because things aren't going well at Schalke at the moment. In fact, he had the possibility of leaving the club in January.

"But as captain, I couldn't jump ship. I don't regret having made this decision," said Mascarell.

For now, the midfielder wants to focus on the current season with Schalke, who are in deep trouble at the bottom of the Bundesliga.

"It's time to focus on survival and trying to play as much as possible. Then, I will have to sit down and look at all the options," stressed Mascarell, whose deal expires in 2022.
